
Mark R. Maddox has served in a variety of senior strategic policy, communications, and political positions during his 25-year career, most recently as the Acting Assistant Secretary of Fossil Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as part of the George W. Bush administration. While at the DOE, he served under Secretaries Samuel Bodman and Spencer Abraham.
As Acting Assistant Secretary, Mr. Maddox oversaw a $750 million budget and high profile initiatives including the Alaska Natural Gas Pipeline, the FutureGen Zero Emissions Power Plant, Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle Power Plant development, Liquefied Natural Gas issues, and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Internationally, he led the 21-nation Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum, and working groups with China and India. Mr. Maddox served as a Senior Policy Advisor to the Secretary on fossil energy and environmental management issues. He also served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy.
Mr. Maddox had previously worked at DOE during the George H.W. Bush Administration (“Bush 41”) as Deputy Director of Communications. In addition, Mr. Maddox worked in the government and public affairs shop at Lockheed Martin as a director for the Integrated Management Systems division. Before that he served as chief of staff for Congressman Nathan Deal (R-GA) and also worked as a senior strategist for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and the Republican National Committee (RNC).
Mr. Maddox received a Masters of Business from George Washington University and earned an undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University, OH.
